West Prairie Lutheran Church
West Prairie Church was built in 1896 and according to church minutes the cost of the church was not to exceed $1,000.00. In 1928 church members decided that they needed a basement and this was done with member donated labor and an approximate cost of $2,129.00. In recent history the church has been hit by lightning, and twisted in a wind storm, each time being repaired by its congregation. This grant allowed the church members to complete a restoration project on the roof and steeple, tearing off old shingles and re-shingling with architectural shingles matching the color of the weathered wood shingles that were on the building. The church is being used for regular Sunday services (1st & 3rd Sundays) as well as funerals, weddings and baptisms.
