Nominations Sought for 2007 Honor Awards

Each year the Preservation North Dakota Honor Awards recognize outstanding achievements and excellence in historic preservation across the state of North Dakota. Recipients are selected by the awards committee from a pool of nominations, submitted by citizens across the state. Nominations are currently being sought for the 2007 Honor Awards. Categories include:

Legacy Award

The Legacy Award is presented annually by Preservation North Dakota for exceptional achievement in preserving the historical, architectural and cultural environment of North Dakota. Individuals who have made significant contributions to furthering preservation may be nominated to receive recognition. Areas of achievement in historic preservation may include: architectural restoration, organizational development, research and writing, or publication of works concerning areas of historic preservation. The accomplishments of the individual honored should serve as an example of exceptional merit for others.

Preservation Excellence Award

Recipients of the Preservation Excellence Award presented by Preservation North Dakota must have demonstrated excellence in the preservation of an historically significant building, structure, resource, or site; and have contributed in a tangible and exemplary manner to furthering preservation in North Dakota. Areas of achievement may include: the restoration or rehabilitation of a building or other element of the built environment; or completion of a significant preservation program that has succeeded in preserving important elements of North Dakota’s heritage. Restoration projects nominated must have been completed in the last five years. The achievement honored should serve as a model of excellence for others in North Dakota to emulate.

Bentley Award “Volunteer of the Year”

The Bentley Award for the “Volunteer of the Year” is presented to an individual for extraordinary dedication to volunteer service in the field of historic preservation in North Dakota. Areas of achievement may include: volunteerism in the form of hours donated to historic preservation. The individual selected for this honor should be regarded by all as one who has made a generous donation of their time and effort towards the historic preservation of North Dakota.

Artisan Award

The Artisan Award is awarded to a craftsman who has offered their expertise in a “hands on approach” to historic preservation in North Dakota. Areas of contribution may include: Architecture, Contracting, Roofing, Designing, and other such crafts. The recipient of this award should be honored and respected by those in his/her field and those outside of the field as one who has not only excelled in their profession, but exemplified participation in historic preservation.

To Make a Nomination Nominations may be submitted by completing the nomination form on our website. Nominations must include written and photographic documentation as supporting evidence. A minimum of four color slides is required. Documentation materials will not be returned. The selection of the awards is made by the Awards Committee of the Preservation North Dakota Board of Directors. Nominations deadline has been extended, and completed nominations must be received by October 7, 2007.
